Thane: Police have uncovered a counterfeit pharmaceuticals racket operating in Maharashtra’s Thane city and seized fake versions of widely used medicines valued at Rs 2.84 lakh, officials said on Thursday.
Two persons have been taken into custody in this connection, they said.
Based on a complaint filed by a senior official of a pharmaceuticals company, the police intercepted a man, hailing from Mumbai, in the Wagle Estate area here on September 21.
The man, along with an accomplice from a pharmaceuticals firm in Lucknow, had allegedly manufactured and stocked spurious drugs for illicit financial gain, a police official said.
The police seized from them a consignment of pharmaceuticals, including fake versions of widely used prescription medicines manufactured by prominent pharmaceutical companies, he said.
The accused did not possess a valid drug manufacturing or sales licence and were trying to sell the stock to an unauthorised buyer, the official said. The accused have been booked under relevant legal provisions.
