Teachers across Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)-affiliated private schools have begun preparing for the National Teachers’ Award after the board invited online applications for the 2025–26 edition of the honour.
Eligible teachers and principals can submit their applications online by July 12, 2026. The board will recommend six outstanding teachers and principals from its CBSE-affiliated private schools for the award.
The final selection will be made at the national level following a multi-stage evaluation process.
Rajesh Pillai, deputy city coordinator of CBSE, said, “CBSE has invited applications from eligible teachers and principals of its affiliated private schools for the award. Applicants must meet the prescribed eligibility criteria and submit their applications online along with all required documents within the stipulated deadline.”
According to the eligibility criteria, teachers must have completed at least 10 years of regular teaching service in a school affiliated with a recognised board as of March 31, 2026.
Principals must possess a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, including at least five years as the head of a CBSE-affiliated school. Teachers and principals who retired on or after March 31 are also eligible to apply.
However, principals cannot apply under the teacher category, and each applicant may apply in only one category.
CBSE has clarified that applications will be accepted only through the online portal. Applicants are required to upload a verification declaration, a service certificate issued by the school management, vigilance clearance, proof of date of birth, academic and professional qualification certificates, board or school examination results, and other prescribed documents.
The board will prepare a merit list based on experience, age, academic qualifications, examination performance, and other prescribed parameters. The top 24 candidates will be shortlisted.
A national screening committee will conduct interactive sessions with the shortlisted candidates before recommending the final six names.
The evaluation will consider academic and professional achievements, research work, book publications, curriculum development, mentoring of teachers, participation in training programmes, community service, memberships in professional organisations, honours and awards, student welfare initiatives, NSS, NCC and Scout and Guide activities, along with annual performance appraisal reports of the previous five years.
Additional weightage will be given for contributions towards nation building, national integration, social awareness, co-curricular activities, and excellence in the field of education.
