Amethi (UP): An 80-year-old man was killed after being hit by the Pratapgarh-Kanpur Intercity Express while crossing a railway track in Amethi district on Friday morning, police said.
The incident took place at around 5.30 am near Barahmaasi on the Lucknow-Varanasi rail route under the Amethi police station area, they said.
According to police, Sikandar Ali, a resident of Bhagwanpur village, was crossing the railway track when he came under the wheels of the speeding train travelling from Pratapgarh to Kanpur. He died on the spot.
Amethi police station in-charge Shivakant Tripathi said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and legal proceedings are underway.
