The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced one of the largest recruitment drives of the year with the release of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026 notification. A total of 12,256 vacancies have been notified for various Group B and Group C posts across ministries, departments and organisations under the Government of India, making it a major opportunity for graduates seeking a stable and prestigious government career.
The online application process is currently underway, and eligible candidates can submit their applications until June 22, 2026. The recruitment drive covers a wide range of positions, including Income Tax Inspector, Assistant Section Officer (ASO), Auditor, Central Excise Inspector, Accountant, Junior Statistical Officer, Assistant Enforcement Officer and Sub-Inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), among others.
SSC CGL is regarded as one of India’s most competitive and sought-after examinations due to the diversity of roles, attractive salary packages and opportunities for career advancement within the Central Government. Candidates selected through the examination are posted in various ministries and departments, where they contribute to administration, finance, taxation, investigation, auditing and policy implementation.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. While the general age limit ranges between 18 and 32 years, it varies according to the post and department. Age relaxation is available for reserved category candidates as per government norms. This year’s examination has introduced sectional timing in Tier-I, requiring candidates to manage their time effectively across all sections. The examination will assess candidates on reasoning ability, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English language skills. Candidates qualifying in Tier-I will proceed to Tier-II, which plays a crucial role in determining the final merit list.
With more than twelve thousand vacancies on offer, SSC CGL 2026 is expected to witness intense competition. Experts advise aspirants to begin preparation early, focus on conceptual clarity and practice extensively through mock tests and previous years’ question papers. For graduates looking to secure a career in the Central Government, SSC CGL continues to be one of the most promising recruitment avenues in the country.
